Issues regarding PET Imaging for Incorporation in Radiation Treatment Planning
W. Weber (Freiburg):
PET-Imaging of the Response to Radiotherapy and Radiochemotherapy

Educational objectives:

  1. AIdentify and address issues and pitfalls relevant for incorporating PET in radiation treatment planning.
  2. Develop a strategy for implementing PET in radiation oncology.
  3. Develop effective communication with radiation oncologists on PET and PETCT.
  4. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of PET for response assessment in oncology.

Summary:

This continuing education session is directed primarily towards nuclear physicians active or interested in performance and interpretation of PET and PETCT in radiation oncology, but also towards radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, physicists, trainees and nuclear medicine technologists. It will cover relevant practical aspects for applying PET and PETCT in cancer patients treated with external beam radiation. By getting an overview of the current state-of-the art and recent developments, this session seeks to provide a basis to participants for implementation and critically reviewing their services.

Key Words:

PET-CT, radiation oncology, radiation treatment planning, response monitoring, multimodality imaging, molecular imaging
