T. Pfluger (Munich):
Multimodality Imaging in Paediatric Oncology
J. Mortensen (Copenhagen):
Radionuclide Measurement of Mucociliary Clearance

Educational objectives:

  1. Approaches for working with the paediatric patient and their family
  2. Discuss methods for optimising the scanning procedure
  3. Understand the need for different imaging modalities in paediatric oncology from a clinical point of view
  4. Describe indications for special imaging modalities including PET/MRI
  5. Explain the clinical importance of mucociliary clearance
  6. Outline the indications for the measurement
  7. To highlight the practical procedures of the technique

Summary:

This session has special focus on children. For an optimal result in paediatric scans the approach and preparation is very important to ensure the cooperation of the child patient. In paediatric imaging it is necessary to understand the focused requirements of paediatric illnesses in order to choose the right modality, both from the physician’s point of view and at the same time with regard to the radiation dose received by the patient. The third speaker will explain the procedure for doing mucociliary clearance and what a positive result means for the paediatric patient.
