EANM Radionuclide Therapy - Dosimetry Course
Goals and curriculum
A renowned faculty was asked to prepare powerpoint presentations and case studies.
At each course two instructors will cover the presentations and case studies in “classroom style” in the lecture room. There will also be ample time for participants to view case studies in 4 viewing rooms, equipped with state of the art multipurpose viewing stations.
This intensive two-day course will be of benefit to clinicians, physicians, physicists (without prior knowledge on Targeted Radionuclide Therapy dosimetry) and technicians, and will provide an overview of the field and lecture material prepared by acknowledged experts. Interactive sessions will also be employed to demonstrate therapy and dosimetry techniques.
The practice of Radionuclide Therapy (RNT) is increasing in terms of the numbers and range of treatments. This expansion is likely to continue for the foreseeable future as more common cancers are targeted and molecular targeting agents are developed.
To date dosimetry for RNT is largely ‘empirically’ employed. However, further improvements in molecular imaging, scanners and computing resources will increasingly allow the use of dosimetry techniques to optimise patient treatment outcome. A recent European directive (EURATOM 97/43) has stipulated that for radiotherapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures ‘exposures of target volumes should be individually planned’, as is routine for external radiotherapy.
