ESMIT Advanced Courses in Vienna

Clinical Neuroimaging: 2-[¹⁸F]FDG Brain PET and DAT SPECT

September 1-2, 2022
ESMIT Learning Centre
Vienna, Austria

UEMS EACCME has granted the accreditation of 6 CME credits for this event.

COURSE CONTENT

The course will offer a comprehensive overview of basic, theoretical and practical evidence-based concepts needed for a deeper and thoughtful understanding of the use of 2-[¹⁸F]FDG (FDG) Brain PET and DAT SPECT in Neurological Disorders. Short theoretical sessions on Do’s and Don’ts of visual reading and semi-quantification of FDG PET and DaT SPECT will be associated with longer hands-on sessions, for practice-oriented learning. Different approaches for semi-quantification and subsequent scan reporting will be proposed and discussed. From the clinical point of view, the use of DaT SPECT and FDG PET will be specifically addressed in dementing disorders and neurodegenerative parkinsonian syndromes. Clinical cases will be the starting point to better define the usefulness, utility and accurate reading of PET and SPECT in Alzheimer’s disease, other neurodegenerative dementias and Parkinsonian Syndrome

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • To familiarise oneself with the tools available to objectively assess glucose metabolism and nigrostriatal integrity.
  • To learn the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches for semi-quantification.
  • To appropriately choose semi-quantitative support for image interpretation in various conditions.
  • The course will provide important information on the most recent developments for improved clinical practice, of utmost importance for nuclear medicine physicians.

TARGET AUDIENCE

General nuclear medicine specialists and radiologists who want to update their knowledge on reading, semi quantification and reporting of DAT SPECT and FDG PET in terms of clinical indications, reading skills and pitfalls. The constantly evolving role of Brain PET in neurodegenerative disorders makes the track of interest for neurologists who want to improve their knowledge of cutting-edge Neuroimaging tools.
