ESMIT Faculty Training

One of the spearheads of ESMIT is to promote interactivity in our teachings as the EANM Board and the ESMIT leadership are both convinced that in these modern times people learn more from ‘the guide on the side’, rather than from ‘the sage on the stage’.

This philosophy also means that the ESMIT asks from all moderators to include in their presentations a number of multiple choice questions that are answered by the audience via an interactive voting system that can be easily used with help of smartphones. In addition each ESMIT event covers case reading sessions as well as hands on sessions with help of the HERMES case reading software.

Everyone acting as moderator for the ESMIT has completed the ESMIT Faculty Training, which focuses on developing the skills needed for interactive teachings. This training takes 2 days and is held several times per year in the ESMIT Learning Center in Vienna, Austria. The course will be given by Roy Sheppard, former anchorman of the BBC and moderator of the social events at the EANM Annual Congress.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. The Education Representative of each Committee nominates facilitators for the Committees’ educational activities, such as the contribution to a Level 2 School.
  2. After discussing these names with the rest of the Committee, the Education Representative writes an official letter of support, informing the Office and the ESMIT leadership about the Committees’ selection for the specific educational event (to be indicated in the letter).
  3. Upon receipt of this letter, the Office and the ESMIT leadership evaluates the suggested names and invites the proposed experts to the Faculty Training (if not completed at an earlier stage).
  4. If none of the upcoming training dates are feasible for a proposed moderator, the ESMIT is willing to grant an one time exemption, meaning that a person can act as speaker once without having completed the training and without being ESMIT certified speaker, provided that at least 1 certified moderator is present in the Track/Course Faculty. For the next event, this person can no longer be moderator if not completed the training before?
