Post-Operative Skeleton 2021

June 24-25, 2021

This online course is accredited with 12 European CME credit (ECMEC), assigned by the EACCME.

  • Orthopaedical aspects of arthroplasty and arthrodesis: Operative indications, surgical devices and techniques, uneventful post-operative course, acute vs delayed complications of instrumented skeleton, challenging scenarios of the painful instrumented joint, clinical, X-rays examinations, and biological tests role
  • Bone SPECT/CT: Image acquisition workflow dedicated to metalwork, image post-processing, integrative reading grid, caveats, complications displayed, undecidable, or invisible on a bone scan, diagnostic performances (Se, Sp, PPV, NPV)
  • Non-bone seeking tracers hybrid imaging: radiolabelled leucocytes, FDG PET: clinical rationale in hematogenous infection, test ordering sequence, integrative reading grid, pitfalls

  1. To frame orthopedics essentials: painful arthroplasty and arthrodesis referrals (emergencies included), surgical devices and techniques (primary and revision), pathophysiology, pathology and natural history of failing arthroplasty and arthrodesis
  2. To master gamut of delayed complications imageable by bone SPECT/CT
  3. To be cognizant with key clinical syndromes of the painful structure
  4. To be able to assess technical quality and (re)interpret plain X-rays and high-end CT of arthroplasty and arthrodesis
  5. To tailor image acquisition workflows, optimized to skeletal metalwork SPECT/CT and PET/CT imaging
  6. To set up image post-processing software routine dedicated to skeletal metalwork, qualitative and quantitative analysis
  7. To identify main SPECT+CT patterns related to prevalent delayed complications of arthroplasty (loosening and differentials) and arthrodesis (pseudoarthrodesis and differentials)
  8. To disclose main SPECT+CT patterns pointing to loco-regional or remote bone and joint conditions unrelated to prosthesis or arthrodesis
  9. To manage tests requesting flow chart rooted on bone SPECT/CT
  10. To be apt to design and/or to scrutinize a diagnosis- or therapy-oriented trial focusing on prosthesis or arthrodesis issues

  • Nuclear Medicine Residents and Fellows needing to be acquainted with hybrid imaging applied to Orthopedics in clinical routine and/or research
  • Nuclear Medicine Practitioners working in hospital or private practice receiving a regular patients caseload of bone SPECT/CT referred by Orthopaedic ward
